the inspiration and vitality of live performance.
Professional artists
represent a wide spectrum of cultures including Caribbean, Latin,
Cajun, Polynesian, Italian, African-American, Native American, Jewish,
Irish, Russian, Asian and Middle-Eastern. Performances include many
diverse music styles such as bluegrass, classical, folk, international,
rock `n roll, rap, popular, standard and many different types of
dance and theater events as well as circus arts.
This program is made
possible by a variety of grants including funding from The New
York State Council on the Arts, The New York City Department of
Cultural Affairs, The New York State Office of Mental Health, and
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Additional
support is given by the ASCAP Foundation's Senior Composers Program,
whereby prominent senior ASCAP composer / performers share their
musical experiences, histories, knowledge and talents with HAI audiences.
Also, Music That Heals funds performances
for children and teens at facilities for youth with AIDS, shelters,
hospitals and recently began performing for hospice patients. Support
from the The Howard Bayne Fund enables HAI to provide cultural
services to homeless individuals and families.
